Tour combining both peaks in the area: Fannaråki and Steindalsnosi. We parked at the winter roadside parking on road 55, close to the road branching toward the small dam (small way east from Sognefjellshyttan). Skinned straight from the car park, heading south-west to the dam and then gently up onto Fannaråkbreen.
Climbing Fannaråki involved few steeper sections moving off the glacier, around 35 degrees, but is generally straightforward after that all the way to the top.
Getting down from FannarÃ¥ki was steep and rocky on the east side. There is a way down directly to the saddle between peaks starting from directly at the top of FannarÃ¥ki on the east side. Steep at the top. Watch out for big cornices. We didn’t know about this and took longer route…
Climbing up Steindalsnosi was surprisingly easy with crampons. Quite steep still. We visited the high point little east and then headed for the west side for the descent.
There are cornices at the top of Steindalsnosi towards glacier. Smallest at the top north corner. Getting down to glacier was quite steep for around 5-10 meters. 40-50 degrees maybe. After that nice skiing down the glacier and back to the car.
