The best off piste in the Alps? Certainly one of the most famous. And for reason. Exeptional scenery, big glacier, good skiing, lift to lift access.

Arrived to Midi lift station hour before first lift. It was first good weather day after a break so we were not alone. Got spot on the second gondola.
From Midi, skis on the bag, crampons on and walk down the first steep section.
Then skis on and down. First section is little steeper at the beginning and was bit icy, after that mostly soft snow and mellow angle. Be aware of open crevasses at least between pointe Lachenal and Gros Rognon where the panoramic lift is supported from.
We skid quite far straight after the Gros Rognon before turning left. On the Glacier du Geant there were many oper cravasses. We stayd mostly on the left side to avoid those.
After the Seracs du Geant we crossed on the right side of the glacier. From there ice is almost but gone. Almost flat ground to the Mer De Glace lift and Train du Montrevers which took us back to Chamonix.
Essential gear we had

Going down from midi lift is easy in winter time with fixed ropes. You can put skis on after the short walk. See all the people down on the left side.
Skiin down towards Pointe Helbronner before the glacier turns left.
Looking back up to the steepest part of the glacier – Seracs du Geant. Ski route goes down on the right side of the picture. Huge moguls.
Vallee Blanch seen from the Grands Montets ski area.
